Dear Investor,
Today, as we observe Patriot Day and remember 9/11, I’m reminded of what resilience really looks like, both in our lives and in our work. It’s been over two decades since that day, but its lessons remain vivid: the fragility of peace, the weight of loss, and the way a community can come together even in the darkest hour.
We’re nearing the end of Q3. September always feels like the natural checkpoint, time to pull up the rearview mirror, measure what’s ahead, and set course for a strong Q4. In that spirit, here’s what I’m seeing, what matters, and what I’d be watching if I were you.
🕯 Reflection: Resilience, Legacy, and Investing
On days like today, I reflect on what it means to build a legacy worthy of remembrance. In investing, in business, in life, what we build must endure. It must weather loss, change, uncertainty. Because what lasts beyond us isn’t always the visible gains — it’s the structures, the values, the people we impact.
Patriot Day teaches us that sometimes the foundation of everything we do is tested. How we respond defines us. When markets get rough, when political winds shift, when tragedy strikes. whether personal or public, the response matters: do we retreat? Or do we take stock, lean in, reaffirm purpose?
⚠️ Breaking: The Murder of Charlie Kirk & What It Reminds Us
This week, we witnessed another tragic moment: Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated at Utah Valley University while speaking to a crowd. Tyler James Robinson, 22, has been arrested, charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and other offenses. Prosecutors are pursuing the possibility of the death penalty.
What this incident underscores is how fragile public safety and liberties can be. How political rhetoric, polarization, and societal division can turn deadly. And how voices in our society, no matter how controversial, can become lightning rods, targets even. In investing, we sometimes talk about risk from macro factors like inflation, rates, supply chains. But there is also risk in the social, political, and cultural environments we inhabit.

💡 Legacy Moves: What You Can Do
Make a pledge this month to document what you stand for: your values, your purpose. If times get murky, these are your North Star. Review your exposure to social & political risk. If your investments, business locations, or partnerships could be affected by divide or instability, build in flexibility or buffers. Think long-term. What happens 5, 10, 20 years from now? What decisions you make now (in hiring, in branding, in who you partner with) will echo. In honor of those we’ve lost, whether in 9/11, or those like Charlie Kirk more recently, use reflection not just for sorrow, but for recommitment. To build, to protect, to lead in a way that makes us proud.
On Patriot Day, we carry both mourning and remembrance. We remember what was lost, and we draw lessons into what we build next. Because creating what lasts doesn’t mean avoiding loss, it means choosing what we do in its wake.
